Every dog has its day. And in this case, that day is Saturday, July 28 and the highly anticipated Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals at the California State Fair at the Sacramento Cal Expo.

Dog lovers of all types can watch up to eight 50-yard trial heats to see who moves on to compete in the final race during which one super dachshund will be named the 2018 Wienerschnitzel Wiener National Sacramento Regional Champion. In between races, visitors can enjoy live thoroughbred horse races, meet the racing wieners and their owners in the grandstand area, and steal a photo with The Delicious One (TDO), Wienerschnitzel’s official 6-foot hot dog mascot.

“The tiny-legged racing doxies are so fun to watch and these events are some of my favorite celebrations of the year,” said JR Galardi, executive vice president for Wienerschnitzel.

The first race starts at 2:00 p.m. and races continue in between the horse races for two hours, with the 2018 Wienerschnitzel Wiener National Sacramento Regional Champion race expected at approximately at 3:00 p.m.

The winning pooch will take home $500 in prize money and bragging rights as the Sacramento Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals Champion.
