artspace1616 is pleased to open our fourth season with works by Ronald Peetz and Phil Amrhein.
In minimalist, elegant, almost monochromatic works Amrhein continues to explore the possibilities and limitations of color black."My mostly black series transitions from my last series of all black paintings. The work is still committed to a restrained minimalist aesthetic without including representational imagery. I’m
drawn to the power and presence black can bring to a composition, its expressive possibilities, its visual heft and ways black can fill an empty space.

In contrast sculptures by Ron Peetz are defined by whimsical thought provoking qualities, that examine and question conventional norms. “Artifacts” reflects on objects and statements that define us as a civilized humans, although the term “civilized” is to be taken with a caution."All my works start with a concept and every technical consideration and aesthetical judgment is driven from that initial idea. Always trying to keep work clean and uncluttered…with no superfluous visual ornamentation. Subject matter can have an
extremely wide range, from text driven pieces to common objects given surrealist or dada twist. I enjoy complete freedom of expression using an extremely wide range of materials in the work construction."

Join us in this dynamic dialog of two artistic languages and sensibilities.

Show opens January 11 th. With artist reception on Second Saturday January 13 th from 6-9.
