Gamers Book Club is a livestreamed book club where we discuss the design, creation and culture of video games. Each month, librarians and community members will read a curated book, and stream the energetic discussion about it live on Following the discussion, we'll interview the author - and field questions from our virtual audience!

For June, we're reading A Theory of Fun by Raph Koster, a brilliant (but very accessible) exploration of what "fun" is, why we need it, and how tabletop and video games create it. You can check out the book in physical or ebook form at

Raph Koster: From Wikipedia:

He was the Chief Creative Officer at Sony Online Entertainment until March 2006. He was the lead designer for Ultima Online and its first expansion The Second Age and the creative director for Star Wars Galaxies. He also authored the book A Theory of Fun for Game Design (ISBN 1932111972) published in November 2004. Previous to this, he helped create and write a text-based Multi-User Dungeon called LegendMUD.
